Program Details
Through Penn Foster, students are able to earn a Property Management Certificate without even having to leave the house. This program includes eight courses covering the fundamentals of business, managing building maintenance, real estate and law, and tenant relations.
The first course discusses professional property management and the various types of real estate. Students are expected to have a basic understanding of computer applications and will learn digital and file management, as well as PC applications such as word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets.
Students are taught common challenges that businesses often face, including competition and economics. Students discuss plumbing, electricity, roofing, lighting systems, HVAC, and recreational facilities. In the course Financial Accounting and Property Valuation, students analyze transactions and study stocks, bonds, assets, and liabilities. This course provides students with the knowledge to be able to estimate a property’s financial performance and valuation. Students learn the areas of modern real estate, how to assist transactional real estate attorneys, and the basics of real property law. Students are taught property management and how it relates to real estate and family residences. While some property managers prefer to be the sole owner, some choose to work with one or more investors. The last course students are required to complete this course involves risk management and fair housing. Students learn how to minimize risk, meaning it may include obtaining insurance. Students learn the definition of discrimination and how to avoid it.
By completing the Property Management courses through Penn Foster, students are able to better understand building maintenance and operations.
