School Details
Western Seminary is a private, not-for-profit, four-year Christian institution of higher education with campuses in Oregon and California. Visions of the school initiated in 1925 with goals to provide a graduate-level theological institution located in the northwestern region of the United States. Then, in 1927, Western Baptist Theological Seminary officially opened. By the 1940s, the campus began to grow, building a physical campus in Portland, Oregon, and continued expanding throughout the twentieth century. Western Seminary added California campuses, and in 1981, Western Seminary introduced a Doctor of Ministry degree, in addition to a distance education program offered via video instruction. Through the years, the institution has continued to evolve, developing a biblical language dual-track learning environment along with online learning, and non-credit educational experiences.
Today, Western Seminary continues to serve students as an evangelical, non-denominational, theological seminary, offering master’s degrees, doctoral programs, diplomas, and certificates. Non-credit classes are provided through the Center for Leadership Development. A number of online options give added flexibility. The Western Seminary online campus allows students to complete several degrees completely online. These online programs are taught by world-class faculty and offer gospel-centered theological training. Even though you may be learning at a distance, you will not feel alone with Online LIVE courses that allow students to engage with faculty and peers in real-time.
