1914
El Paso, TX

School Details

Founded in 1914 as the Texas School of Mines and Metallurgy, with 27 students and a handful of faculty and staff, The University of Texas at El Paso was established to respond to the needs of the mining industry in the region at that time. Today, as a Carnegie high-research-activity, urban university, UTEP is a member of The University of Texas System. With a Hispanic student population majority, UTEP proudly reflects the demographic composition of the binational region from which it draws its students: far west Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern Mexico.

UTEP offers undergraduate programs, master’s programs, and doctoral degree programs, as well as a growing portfolio of online degrees. The online programs combine the high level of quality and engagement associated with earning a degree on campus with the flexibility and convenience of online education. All of the UTEM online degree programs offered are of the same academic rigor as face-to-face degree programs. They are taught by the same faculty who teach on-campus courses.
