Program Details
Providing the foundations to effectively teach reading and writing skills, Arcadia’s Graduate Certificate in Literacy Instruction uses the framework set by the International Dyslexia Association. This online reading and literacy graduate certificate uses three classes from the Pathways™ courses taught through the AIM Institute for Learning and Research.
Educators learn to teach reading and writing skills to all students effectively. However, the focus is on children with dyslexia or other language-based learning disabilities. This culturally responsive literacy instruction reaches those in PK-12 learning settings.
To reduce the economic and racial gaps in literacy, the coursework teaches an understanding of the culture-specific contexts needed to support students in reading and literacy. Graduates can identify and implement assessment and instruction that is:
- Aligned with strategic and structured literacy principles
- Grounded in scientific evidence
- Intensive, systematic, and explicit in developing reading and writing skills
